Halloween 2014

All Hallow's Eve - a magical time of year.

While some people prefer Christmas carols to shrieks of terror or sugar cookies over chocolate bars - Sean squarely falls on the side of Halloween.  Asher seems to be embracing his father's interests as well (although he still enjoys Christmas and any kind of sugar).

After we find the right pumpkin, there is always a certain amount of stress as we try to make sure that it survives the pre-carving festivities.

There is also always some trepidation when we give Asher pumpkin guts to play with (hence Sean's creepy gaze over his shoulder, he is ready to pounce and avoid pumpkin going all over the house)...

That's right - it's Jack the Pumpkin King.

Well done, Shauna, well done.

Sean's office dressed in an old west theme, hence the grizzled old gunfighter alongside the family of pirates.

Notice Asher in the background, attacking the foliage with his sword.

The most adorable/funny little pirates on this side of the border!

Once again, the house was decked out in Halloween glory.  Mexicans in Ciudad Juarez love Halloween, so Sean and Asher had a chance to enjoy the night by handing out candy and scaring older kids.

After trick or treating at a few houses, Asher quickly became Sean's accomplice.  He'd let Sean know whether there were older kids coming, or if there were little children.

When older kids or adults would come by, Asher would encourage them to come close and take some candy, reassuring them that it was okay, the person holding the bucket of candy is just pretend; then Sean, prevously still like a statue, would jump out at them.
Both Asher and Sean would then die laughing and hand out candy to their "victims."

It was a great time had by all...except for maybe the handful of teenagers that Sean scared the pee out of!

Unfortunately, this will be our last year celebrating Halloween in Mexico, much to everyone's disappointment.  I do believe that our house was the most visited/decorated/anticipated house in the neighborhood.

Romania - we are on our way!!

Happy Halloween!

Asher's school had a little celebration with altars for ancestors on Dia de los Muertos. While many of the kids had their whole faces painted with sugar skulls, Asher could only stay still long enough for the little squigly mark on his cheek because, "It tickled."
