Pellumbus Caves

This last month, in September, Sean and I went on a trip to the Pellumbus Caves here in Albania.  We went with a group in our community, and had a great time!

Sean got to wear a pretty back pack, which he claims belonged to a little girl on the trip and he was helping out, but we all know that he has been waiting his whole life to drape himself in pink :)

We hiked up a mountain...

Saw some beautiful views...

Fortunately, they had steps in some places, and I've decided I like taking pictures of steps :)

We then made it to the cave...

Took out our flashlights...

And ventured inside...

Sean became ghost-like in the cave.

After looking around, hearing bats, sloshing through the guano and mud, and having several near slips, we hiked out.

We stopped for a hearty lunch of qofta (pronounced chofta, Albanian sausage), cheese and bread.  Delicious!

Our guide cooking the qofta.

We hiked back down to the little village, stopped for drinks, and went home.

All modes of Albanian transportation... a donkey, a small car and a run-down van.
It is unusual that the car wasn't a Mercedes  :)
