Highlights From April, May & June 2014

While adjusting to being a family of four - crazy! - life went on, and here are some things that happened over the past couple of months...

Shauna turned 32!  And we celebrated with whipped cream and strawberry covered mini pecan pies - it was great!  Sean gave her a day of quiet, and took Asher out for a few hours while Everly and Shauna relaxed at home.  A very low key birthday, but it was just what Shauna needed!

My friend Sara on the phone calling to wish me happy birthday :)

Sean turned 33 and his office went all out to celebrate!
The "Sh" sound doesn't really exist in Mexican Spanish, so the baker did the best that he could.

Sean claims that wearing the sombrero was not optional,
I think that he was enjoying it...

Salt and Pepper shakers.

Another highlight - Asher started practice Pre-School!  I call it practice preschool because we started it in May, when the school year was almost over, and he only went for two months before we took our summer vacation.  We decided that with a new baby, a new apartment/city, and no friends to play with, that he needed time and space to socialize with his peers.  While it was a bit of a rough start (we were privileged to have daily conversations with his teacher every time we picked him up, for some reason no other parents had that level of communication...), by the end of two months, he was doing so much better!  We will start again with the new school year and we hope that he will be a bit more excited then!

He and his Daddy went to the store where he could pick out his own backpack.  He chose Batman!

On Mother's Day weekend, we drove to Ardovino's Desert Crossing, a restaurant in New Mexico, where we had Mother's Day brunch.  It was delicious!  We recommend you get to it if you are ever in the area.

They had a tiny, tiny farmers market, and then some pretty cool views around it...

The restaurant is literally on the border with Mexico, so we got a view of the border patrol making sure the border is secure.

Great place for pictures if you want that idyllic desert setting :)

Another event that took place in May was the Father/Son camp out.  Sean was very excited that Asher was finally potty-trained and ready to go camping with him.  Fire, sharp sticks, knives, rocks, dirt, what could go wrong?  Sean took Asher camping in Cloud Croft, NM, where the church has a campsite.  Asher was quite excited himself, and we sent the campers off for a good time!

I love these two boys!

Enjoying a drink by the fire...

Our goofy boy :)

They had a great time, and Asher keeps talking about it to this day!

Other random pictures...

Asher stacking spices - impressive!

Asher has enjoyed playing with his old / Everly's new toys.  He has especially liked the Bumbo.  He never liked it as an infant, it restricted his movement too much, but now he loves goofing around in it.  He didn't fit then, and he doesn't fit now!  No matter how much he'd like to think that he does :)

Then a little while later, he came into the room saying he was wearing superhero goggles!

Asher is still taking gymnastics class, and has been doing so well!  They moved him up to the next level where he is in a class with only two other boys.  They are working on the real gymnastic equipment, like the pummel horse, the parallel bars, and the lower part of the uneven bars.  He is doing great!  He's such a strong "little" boy, and it is a great way for him to exercise and get some of that energy out! :)  We have been so pleased with the program at Elite Gymnastics, and highly recommend it to others in the area!  He even brings home the things that he learns.  Like head stands...

Relaxing with Dad

We had a somewhat unique Sunday a couple of months back.  Asher stopped really napping at two and a half.  Sometimes he will fall asleep in the car, but he always wakes up when we bring him in.

Apparently, this Sunday he was exhausted, because he didn't wake up until the end of Sacrament meeting.  Best Sacrament meeting in a looooooong time! :)  We love you Asher, but sitting still and using your quiet voice is not one of your strong points yet ;)

Then during primary, the chorister, who loves Asher so much, had him come up to help her lead the music and get his wiggles out!  We are so appreciative for teachers and parents who recognize how energetic our son is and go the extra mile to involve him and teach him to channel his energy appropriately!

Then, when we got home, he pulled off the pants, and brought out the dance moves - Risky Business style :)  No pants, smiley face sticker on the forehead - We seriously love this kid!

What does the fox say?

Making a run to our Mexico house to pick up some stuff for our El Paso apartment, Asher rediscovered his fox mask from Venice.

Hanging out with friends in the blistering El Paso heat!

We are trying to make our time in El Paso pass quickly, and are definitely finding some good ways to make it happen!
