City on a Hill, Anyone?

Driving through Italy was amazing.  The countryside has such a unique beauty to it, and my eyes could not get enough!  As we were driving, we were struck by how many of the hills had cities on them.  We assumed they were strategically placed to keep the nobility safe, let them watch over their peasants, and keep watch for invading armies.  At first I got so excited to see them and how picturesque they were on top of those hills, surrounded by luscious green fields, trees, or vineyards.  But then as we continued driving we realized, they were pretty much a dime a dozen.

Towards the end of the trip it became something to chuckle at, "Wow look Sean!!  It's a city on a hill!! I haven't see anything like that before!"

I feel like one of the Roman rulers took a trip through the country, and Oprah style, he passed out cities to the surrounding hills.  "You get a city!  You get a city!  You get a city!"

Because they are iconic to Italy, and because they really are beautiful... Here is my ode to the "City on the Hill"... photo style...
