Ringing in the New Year in Maryland

We celebrated the 2014 New Year in Maryland.  It was great to reconnect with friends, watch Asher play with his cousins, and spend time with family.
As an added bonus, Asher got to enjoy snow
- living in El Paso / Ciudad Juarez, he doesn't get to see much of it.
His first comment: "Dad, that stuff (he did not remember the word for snow) is wet!"

Asher and Andelyne catching snow flakes on their tongues.

Living in Texas, we lacked the proper winter gear,
but with Grammy Trish's help we cobbled together an outfit for him to play in the snow.

Asher, Seth, and Andelyne jumping on the snow-covered trampoline.

And then the sledding started...

Asher's first solo sledding experience
(he flew down the hill and we thought that he was headed into the tiny creek at the bottom,
but he had the good sense to listen to us and bail out, just in time).

He got a little lazy after the first few runs,
and cousin Tade had to drag him back up to keep things moving...

And then things devolved into snow ball fights and snow angels
(I believe that Tade may have left the field of battle in tears after Seth shoved a mound of snow into his face).

Watch out Asher!  Andelyne is out of control!

Asher and Andelyne, thick as thieves
Hard to believe that Asher is younger.

Not the best at steering, those two...

And finally, as is customary at most family get-togethers, it all ended in tears
and then, some sugar (hot cocoa in this case) to make it all better.

While in Maryland, we had the chance to get together with our friends/Albanian family.  Both families were with us in Albania, and it was great to see them, one was in Chinese language training before heading to Guangzhou, China, and the other was learning Turkish to prepare for Ankara, Turkey.

A few photos of the trio that "cried havoc and let slip the dogs of war" every Sunday in Albania.
After this, they were headed to the four corners of the world...
Clockwise - Asher, Tate, and Jonas, the terrors of Tirana 3rd Branch.

More snow...

We went down to visit Heather in her new house,
and one of the highlights for Sean was a trip to Steak n' Shake

The Marine Corps Museum in Quantico

Anytime there is a Norman Rockwell painting, Shauna is compelled to take a photo...

Asher and Andelyne looking up at the dome of the Marine Corps Museum...

Andelyne is rightly concerned as Asher tries to give her a hug.

Michelle and an honorary member of her clan.

On Christmas, Heather gave Aunt Kathryn a 2,000 piece puzzle consisting of Gunnar's ties
(Gunnar was famous for his bright, fun ties).
After two days of hard work, it was finally finished.
